LET Levels
LET I & LET II
JROTC Cadets start at the LET I level (Leadership, Education, and Training, Level One) and progress to the LET IV level. The textbooks used in JROTC are provided by the U.S. Army. The material is divided into seven units. Units one and two are combined into one book as are units three and four. Units five, six, and seven are each in separate textbooks. Unit One, Introduction to JROTC, is used at the LET I and LET III level. The nine lessons in Chapter One cover: wear of the military uniform, military customs and courtesies, the National Anthem, the American flag, and the purpose of JROTC.
Unit Two is Leadership Theory and Application. LET I cadets learn the principles of leadership and marching (also known as Drill and Ceremonies).
In Unit Three, Foundations for Success, cadets develop their study skills, communication skills, and learn about resolving conflicts.
Unit Four, Wellness, Fitness, and First Aid, discusses diet, exercise, drug awareness, and introduces the cadets to first aid.
In Unit Five, LET I cadets are introduced to Geography and Earth Science.
Unit Six is Citizenship and American History. At the LET I level cadets are introduced to the Constitution and their responsibilities as citizens.
Air Rifle Safety and Marksmanship is Unit Seven. LET I cadets concentrate on learning about safety. In subsequent years the same units are used and cadets build on lessons previously learned. In the LET II year, Unit Two is about styles of leadership and taking charge. Unit Three continues to develop communication skill. Cadets also learn about the structure of the brain, how learning occurs, and how to conduct classes for other cadets.
In Unit Four cadets learn advanced first aid and about controlling stress. Cadets learn about map reading and how to navigate in Unit Five. In Unit Six, LET II cadets learn the procedures used by Congress to pass laws and U.S. History through 1918.
A supplementary text, called The Cadet Reference Guide, is given to each cadet and is theirs to keep. Other lessons such as checkbook management, that are not contained in the textbooks, are taught at the LET I and LET II level. The materials for these lessons are provided as needed at no cost to the student.

LET III & LET IV
As cadets progress through the program they begin to assume leadership positions. As leaders, upper class cadets (LET III and LET IV), guide the under class cadets, teach classes, and make decisions about cadet activities. Upper level cadets will also conduct meetings, give briefings, and perform inspections. In Unit One, LET III cadets learn about the mission and structure of the Department of Defense.
Unit Two contains lessons on evaluating performance, performing inspections, and problem solving.
Units Three, Four, Six, and Seven continue to build on the lessons from previous years.
In Unit Five cadets discuss environmental issues. Cadets will use class time putting the principles learned into practice through interaction with other cadets of the Battalion.
